Sources familiar with the company’s plans have stated that this new option will likely be aimed at audiences in Europe and Asia. It is currently uncertain whether this free tier will be available in India or not.
However, considering that the company has not yet launched a free plan with ads, there is a possibility that it might be introduced in this country as well.
If this happens, users in India will not have to spend any money to enjoy it’s content and they will be able to watch anything on the platform for free, albeit with ads.
According to the report, it is currently in the early stages of discussing the possibility of this move. They had previously tried out a free service in Kenya, but it was later discontinued.
The new free tier they are considering would offer a limited selection of content. It is similar to the previous model, but this time focusing on established markets like Japan and Germany instead of emerging ones.
Netflix competitors
This streaming platform is facing tough competition from streaming services like Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, and HBO Max. To stay competitive, they have made changes such as cracking down on password sharing and increasing subscription prices.
In 2022, they even introduced an ad-supported tier to attract more budget-conscious customers and generate additional revenue.
