The court allowed the release after the filmmakers agreed to remove objectionable scenes following a writ petition seeking a ban on the movie due to its negative portrayal of Islam and Muslims, as well as distortion of the Quran.
Justices BP Colabawalla and Firdosh Pooniwalla oversaw the case and both parties agreed to the court’s suggested alterations. It include the deletion of a specific dialogue and Quranic verse, along with the addition of two 12-second disclaimers in the film.

Hamare baarah Bombay High court
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has agreed to re-certify the film with the modifications by June 20, 2024.
The filmmakers will also cover legal costs of Rs 5 lakh to a charity chosen by the petitioner. The court emphasized that a violation was present in the trailer, hence a contribution towards a charity of the petitioner’s choice is necessary.
This litigation has garnered the film significant unpaid publicity.
The bench previously stated that there was nothing objectionable in the Annu Kapoor-starrer film, nor was there anything against the Quran or the Muslim community. ‘Hamare Baarah’ was highlighted as a film aimed at the upliftment of women.
The bench further mentioned that the movie does not require the audience to leave their critical thinking behind and that the Indian public is not easily deceived.
Initially, the release of ‘Hamare Baarah’ was postponed by the Bombay High Court, but it was later allowed on June 7 after the objectionable portions were removed as per the CBFC’s instructions.
Subsequently, the petitioners approached the Supreme Court. It halted the film’s release and directed the High Court to review and make an appropriate decision.
